Is it easy to put a smile one someone's face?
Is it easy to put a smile one someone's face? I think for some under-privileged children and orphans, it sure will.
My company is organising a Xmas cheer thingy whereby children from 4 homes are invited to a Xmas party together with Swissotel. Part of the programme is for each child to make a birthday wish and write it on a card and these wishes were sent to us. Staff will then select any wish from the list to fulfil.
On the 1st day of the selection days, I chose about 11 gifts. Not that I am greedy, but most of the stuff are similar items so might as well get them all at once then ended up each child will receive a different gift. Among those I chose are (1) Glitter Art x 7 (2) DIY Art & Craft x 1 (3) Glitter Pens x 1 (4) Jigsaw puzzle x 1 and (5) Cross Stitch x 1. Managed to find them all today at Bras Basah. Had intended to try Art Friend at Taka but no time to go down yet. The Art Friend at Bras Basah dun have what I wanted and some staff were not helpful and attentive at all.
Bought most of the stuff from a shop "Sagacity" located at the 2nd floor corner of the building. This shop is not a stranger to me as I have patronised since young since I am an art lover too. Imagine the person who served me was a 8 year old girl who was there to help out her mum. She introduced me to several stuff and I chose few things as each was very reasonably priced (very cheap too). She thought I was a school teacher but I told her its for some children's party. I even had a 10% discount as I bought up to $50 (after discount was $45.10). And that was for 36 items, tell me its cheap or not.
Its then off to Popular to search for other stuff (item 3 & 4). Bought what I wanted plus additional glitter glues for the children. Spent a total of $57.56 for about 11 items inclusive of 20% discount (year end member promo). Not bad, total spent around $110 for 11 children!
Other than what they wanted, I put in additional stuff so it will be both a wish fulfilled and a surprise for each child.
Let's see what each child will get:
7 children wishing for "Glitter Art" will get:
- 2 pcs of glitter art, 1 pack of glitter glue and 2 pcs of sand art
1 child wishing for a set of "DIY Art & Craft" will get:
- 1 Wind Chime painting set, 2 pcs of glitter art and 1 pc of sand art
1 child wishing for "Cross Stitch" will get:
- 1 cross stitch, 1 pc of glitter art and 1 pc of sand art
The 2 children who wished for glitter pens and jigsaw puzzle will just get what they wanted coz each is attractive enough!
I even took the effort to wrap each of them nicely, sticked their wishes onto the wrapped gifts themselves, plus a greeting inside for each of them! I think I can become professional wrapper already...
Anyway, check out the stuff I bought...
Its damn warm after all the shopping and walking back to office with 2 big bags. Also packed lunch along the way then perspired all the way again. Its then full blast fan while wrapping all the presents. Lucky thing boss is still on leave so its a good time to buy all the stuff today afterall.
Its been really fun, hope these will bring on a smile on each child's face! Merry Xmas to them too!
